Self Improvement?

There is a great deal about self-improvement being taught on the media, through books, and in group therapy sessions. Did you ever wonder if there was any true value? Or, if there were any real permanent results.

I have watched for quite some time and have come to believe it is the same effect as the putting one of the religious hypothetical garments. You go through the training and repeat repeatedly until you have it down, kind of like Pavlov’s dogs, then you are rewarded with the garment that comers up what you were, and you’re told you’re not that any more. Is this too harsh?

I don’t think so. There is the question, can a leopard change its spots? Can a man add one inch to his stature? No not without high heals. So then how to we get out of the mess we are left in?

First, we must come to realize that it is our nature that makes us who or what we are, Dog, Cat, Man, Woman or Child. That is what we are. We can’t change that, neither can we change the genetic propensities we have been handed down by others. Thanks mom and dad. If I have a bad habit, I can alter my behavior by discipline but my nature is unchanged, so I with very little coaxing return to my former self.

True change must come from outside ourselves. Sometimes its a traumatic incident that causes a change in our nature, Like the curious boy who always liked to touch things without thinking, lays his hand on a hot stove. The experience gotten from that will change his nature forever, we don’t like pain.

However, if we are seeking deep changes in our lives, such as in our love relationships with our family, or in matters of reactive spirit, broken souls, or ones that have lost all self-respect. It takes a face to face encounter with what I call Gods mirror. We are changed while beholding the contrast between us and God. Realizing just who God truly is as God is will impact our lives in such a way that we want to know more and the more we know God the more we understand ourselves. In that we are irrevocably changed forever.

May I know God with every fiber of my mind, body, and soul.
